Introduction: Our Client is developing and building multiple multi-year Contracts and Projects in the UK. The Commercial Manager is a key role who will be the commercial lead and ensure the successful completion of multiple challenging anaerobic digestor construction projects and injection hubs each valued at £25m with a total spend of £400m. Once delivered this role will continue as a commercial lead for the operational business.

Key responsibilities will include:

Work closely and collaboratively with the Senior Management Team

Conduct contract negotiations with principal contractors and subcontractors and manage all subsequent contract administration post award.

Review Invitations to Tender and ensure commercial aspects of the contracts are managed effectively.

Build strong relationships with all principal and subcontractors to ensure successful delivery of all projects.

Production of main and subcontracts to ensure the proper management of the supply chain & to ensure the timely delivery of goods and equipment within the agreed budgets.

Management of all associated internal delivery team resource allocation.

Management of the procurement activities, subletting and management of contract works, correspondence and relationship with the supply chain.

Production of project programs, compilation of monthly contract and financial reports.

Design and produce high level commercial reports with emphasis on project specific reports, including Profit & Loss reporting, protecting the business from commercial risk and ensuring adherence to governance is met from tender enquiries through to final account.

Review and timely negotiation of final accounts.

Ensure the profitability, cash and risk management, cost control and accurate reporting of engineering and construction activities on each project

Undertake cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams.

Ensure commercial challenge at all times to engineering and site teams.

Resolving contractual and commercial problems.

Review all contract orders and advise accordingly within the business.

Chair and attend internal and external commercial review meetings.

Development of supply chain relationships with main contractor, suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of projects.

Challenge supply chain procurement while utilising extensive knowledge of NEC and business law to verify, oversee or approve commercial agreements and documentation.

Ensure that the financial aspects and commercial risks of a contract are clear to all parties.

Lead final account negotiation achieving the best possible outcome

Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base.

Manage commercial performance against business targets and KPI’s.

Ensure that the delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances.

Manage commercial reporting process internally and externally.

Contract and commercial management of main contractor and subcontractor accounts from initial engagement to negotiation and agreement of final accounts.

Ensuring timely certification and payment of subcontractors.

Review of monthly cost and value to complete forecasts for projects.

Active involvement in Risk Management.

Provision of commercial and contractual support and advice to management and operational teams.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Comprehensive contract and commercial management experience in a similar position ideally with a Civil Engineering or Process Contractor or a similar role in a client organisation

Relevant experience on challenging, multi-million-pound projects within a process industry such as water/wastewater, energy from waste, anaerobic digestion

Qualification at HND level (or higher) in an engineering discipline, contract or project management, Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management

Experience in dispute resolution processes

Experience using NEC and IChemE conditions of contract

Experience working in a collaborative environment

CSCS registered

Our Client: Is an exciting new business which will create biomethane for injection into the gas grid through three different routes:

Greenfield development of their own AD plants based on agri-waste

Collaboration with Water Treatment companies to upgrade their biogas to biomethane

Off-taking biogas from existing AD facilities

The Role: They are recruiting for a Lead Planner who will play an important part in creating, maintaining and administering multiple integrated design and construct programmes for multiple challenging anaerobic digestor construction projects each valued at £25m with a total spend of £400m.

You will ensure that the business and projects remain on track.

The company has excellent prospects ahead and plans to grow substantially in the coming years and this role will grow with it, ultimately with responsibility for the planning department.

Responsibilities: Work closely with and guide project teams and suppliers to ensure all activities, logic, risks, internal and external constraints are identified when creating programmes.

Provide accurate and consistent progress information, both at high-level and in full detail

Analyse programmes to proactively identify time risks and opportunities.

Work with the Head of Engineering and Delivery to formulate a detailed and timed Programme Delivery Plan.

Assimilate the project brief, associated documents and specifications and request any additional information to improve programme accuracy.

Work with design and construct teams to develop production methodologies, work sequences and pre-contract and contract programmes.

Arrange and facilitate collaborative planning sessions with appropriate stakeholders throughout project development stages.

Arrange and facilitate programme validation workshops to ensure programme accuracy, logic, clear critical path identification, adequate and appropriately placed time risk allowances, etc.

Manage collaborative planning meetings with the site representatives, Technical Manager and Project Engineers

Update project progress working directly with project teams and suppliers. This will involve virtual and actual site and pre-assembly works visits to verify progress.

Identify and assess programme risks and work with project teams to produce mitigation plans. Identify alternative methodologies/sequences that reduce delivery risks.

Monitor and capture actual output and productivity performance data and use this to continually improve project performance and programme accuracy.

Experience: Previous planning and project delivery experience

You must be proficient using planning software including resource management functions

They are looking to recruit a Senior Manufacturing and Production Engineer to support the development and prototyping of new products. You will report directly to the R&D Engineering Manager and responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Make improvements to existing products and systems to increase efficiency within manufacturing and engineering.
  • Determine feasibility, costs, and timescales to developing ideas to completed products.
  • Maintain knowledge of ‘cutting edge’ of sensing, communications, and electronics technologies.

  • Design of RF communications systems; module selection, RF signal integrity design, antenna theory. Knowledge of mobile network operation, 2G/3G/4G technologies. SIM cards and network protocols.
  • Extensive 3D CAD experience (Solid Edge) to design mechanical parts to fulfil requirements of hardware specification. Design of mechanisms, enclosures and high pressure dynamic seals. Ergonomic and aesthetic considerations in design.
  • Knowledge of relevant fabrication techniques; turned parts, machined parts, investment casting, sheet metal parts. Experience of selecting appropriate surface finishes for harsh environments. Assembly methods including in depth knowledge of adhesive selection and use.

Mechanical Supervisor

Position: Mechanical Supervisor – Water

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominately in the water industry who have been awarded a programme of work to deliver non-infrastructure water and wastewater projects for Southern Water.

They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Supervisor on either a permanent or contract basis for a key project located near Maidstone where you oversee the removal of old high lift pumps and associated pipework and installation of new high lift pumps and pipework within an existing wet well.

You will report directly to the MEICA Manager and duties/responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Supervision of site Mechanical installations.
  • Ensuring SHE standards are maintained and safe systems of work are being adhered to.
  • Ensuring a high-quality product is being produced in line with current standards and specifications.
  • Verification of new systems.
  • Safe isolation of mechanical/hydraulic systems.
  • Monitor supply chain performance and programme.
  • Review and monitor supplier inspection and test plans ensuring they are up to date and relevant to the work activity.
  • Attend site inductions and toolbox talks.
  • Support Commissioning activities where required.

They are looking to recruit a Senior Site Manager to oversee the timely delivery of all construction activity carried out on one of their key projects on Horsham WTW. You will manage the Health, Safety, Environmental and Sustainability with responsibility for CDM for managing compliance for all delivered construction work within a designated team. Managing the local construction delivery team to ensure all construction activities are provided in compliance with the scheme deliverables, you’ll drive a culture of zero accidents and zero defects to meet the Delivery Milestones to provide the best service.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage site construction team to deliver the project within approved budget and to an agreed time frame; facilitate project construction kick off meeting and lead health checks.
  • Responsible for the performance of tier 2 suppliers in relation to Safety, Time and Quality including approving RAMS ensuring they are appropriate and adequate.
  • Take the lead with Constructability Reviews, Project Rehearsal and Fit for Assembly sign-off which drives outperformance and innovation where possible.
  • Drive a focus on zero waste and reducing embodied carbon within construction activities.

The Role: You will provide leadership and management to the commercial delivery teams and core team commercial functions for the business.

Working in a JV which is delivering a range of schemes to maintain and improve Southern Water’s water supply and wastewater treatment works in the eastern half of its region (Kent & East Sussex).

Responsibilities: Report directly to the Senior Commercial Manager

Commercial Management of the out performance of projects & tranches of projects.

Commercial & contractual support to the procurement team.

Provide input to continuous development of the JV Commercial Strategy for pre works orders & construction phase.

  • Work effectively and efficiently alongside other members of the construction team to support them in their role
  • Keep accurate site records identifying any variances or issues and provided feedback to line managers
  • Assist in the management of subcontractors and the supply chain as directed.
  • Assist in project design co-ordination and distribution of documentation relevant to the site works
  • Hold specific site based responsibilities as determined at site level, typically permits to work
  • Be willing to hold site based co-ordination and subcontract manager roles relevant to your knowledge & experience as determined at site level, or as defined by the project management team
  • Support other team members to ensure liaison between the different site disciplines and subcontract managers is free flowing and works are co-ordinated effectively
  • As required, prepare & implement Risk Assessments & Method Statements for directly resourced works
  • Plan and procure materials & plant as required for works on site as required and ensure efficient use / stocks are maintained provide feedback and identification of any issues in a timely manner
  • Attend / arrange weekly co-ordination, progress and programme / resource meetings as required

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree/HNC level qualification in a relevant engineering subject
  • Understanding of engineering principles
  • Technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices.
  • Relevant CSCS Card
