M&E Project Manager – Water

Position: M&E Project Manager

Location: M4 Corridor

Salary Guide: £55,000 (DOE) Plus Car/Allowance and Excellent Benefits

Our client is a large engineering Contractor operating predominately in the water industry, who are delivering a number of water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects for Thames Water and they are recruiting for a M&E Project Manager to successfully deliver a programme of work throughout the Thames Valley region.

In this role you will be delivering 3-4 projects simultaneously with average values of £500k and up to £1 million. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Management of staff and subcontractors working on assigned projects
  • Creation of the appropriate Project Initiation Document (PID), setting success criteria in line with Business objectives. Tracking, managing & updating throughout the project lifecycle
  • Produce the programme of works, risk register and assumptions for baseline at the start of the project and gain approval from the Regional Manager
  • Produce and maintain project documentation according to the Project Artefect Matrix
  • Control project expenditure to satisfy the success criteria set out in the PID and contract
  • Create, manage and update project programmes, ensuring compliance with the contract type whilst maintaining its effectiveness as a planning tool
  • Close liaison and management of the Client and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Accept and manage issues escalated from site personnel and Project Engineers
  • Work within a monthly project reporting structure, responsible for receiving & providing accurate project dashboard information for review, discussion and action
  • Manage performance, measuring delivery milestones, quality outputs, programme variance and contribution to the business core values
  • Liaison with procurement to ensure effective management of long lead items taking into consideration contract payment terms as well as committed costs, accruals and project / business cashflow
  • Monitor, review and ensure effective change management
  • Line Manage staff and their professional development
  • Responsible for updating site documentation and adhering to agreed systems and processes
  • Effectively manage the O&M outputs of the projects and to programme deadlines
  • Finish and close out projects to programme

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Appropriate Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification
  • Excellent client engagement and communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation and company procedures
  • SMSTS and/or IOSH Managing Safely
  • APM – Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or willingness to achieve
  • Computer literate
  • Good knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes with experience or knowledge of planning software packages such as Microsoft Project / P6

Sub Agent and Site Agent – Water

Position: Sub Agents and Site Agents – Water

Location: Berkshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire Regions

Salary Guide: £40,000 – £55,000 Plus Car Allowance and Excellent Benefits

Our client is a Principal Contractor operating within the water industry and they are one of the framework partners to Thames Water working on their AMP7 schemes. They currently have a number of vacancies for Sub Agents and Site Agents to work on water and wastewater projects throughout the Thames Valley region.

In this role you will manage projects from contract award through to completion; reporting to either a Contracts Manager or Project Manager depending on the value and complexity of project and personal experience/ability. You will ensure the successful completion of projects by achieving acceptable financial outcomes, whilst maintaining and improving client relationships, and adherence to the quality, safety and environmental policies of the business.

They have committed to working collaboratively with Thames Water, their strategic suppliers and other stakeholders to embed MMC (Modern Methods of Construction), particularly off-site manufacturing.

Key Tasks:

  • Resource allocation and management of Site staff;
  • Reporting to the senior Manager on Department budget control procedures for contracts and progress against programme;
  • Ensure safe systems of work and the Company Safety Policy are practiced;
  • Enforcement and monitoring of the Division’s Quality Assurance and Env systems;
  • Management of projects/contracts;
  • Motivation of staff;
  • Communication at all levels regarding progress of projects;
  • Staff recruitment;
  • Directly supervise Sub Agents, General Foreman;
  • Indirectly supervise Site Engineer, Foreman and Gangers.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential Civil Engineering/Building qualification
  • Preferred BSc Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered status or approaching
  • Evidence of relevant post graduation practical training e.g. attendance on courses for Form of Contracts, Formwork/Falsework Appreciation, Concrete Technology, H & S Management etc.
  • Has held a similar position with a medium to major size Civil Engineering Contractor for at least 2 years (essential)
  • Possesses proven experience on challenging and diverse projects with major clients e.g. LUL, HA, Water Companies, Petro/Chem.;
  • Proven experience from engineering background demonstrating progress to Site Agent through career development with both theoretical and practical experience
  • CSCS card
  • SMSTS (5 day)
  • First Aid at Work (4 day)
