Position: Project/Delivery Engineer

Location: Cambridgeshire

The Role: Working within a Framework JV made up of seven partner companies and their extended supply chain, delivering over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.

The framework is heading into its latest Asset Management Period, known as AMP 7 which will the delivery of a £1.8bn programme of work over the next five years.

Undertaking circa 800 projects across the region requires teams to collaborate and work towards common objectives to deliver the best service possible to clients.

To ensure projects are successfully delivered from asset planning to asset operation, our Client is looking for a number of enthusiastic Project Delivery Engineers who will add value to our Client’s ways of working immediately, and who also have the desire to develop and grow within an industry- leading alliance.

You will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, safely whilst embedding sustainability principles. Furthermore, you’ll drive efficiency and outperformance whilst not compromising on governance and delivery processes.

Our Client sees Delivery Engineers as vital cogs in their project delivery capabilities and offer a full training programme and mentoring to enable successful candidates to develop into Project Delivery Managers.

Responsibilities: Assist in the successful delivery of a variety of water and wastewater treatment projects to time, quality and budgetary constraints.

Oversee and ensure projects are on track in terms of time and budget whilst proactively managing risks and opportunities

Attend site to gather information and translate this into value added reports and presentations which drive the successful meeting of relevant project delivery milestones

Champion sustainability principles in design and construction specifically around the minimisation of energy use, carbon emissions, waste materials reduction and the supply chain

Coordinate and manage contract requirements relating to design solutions, construction and commissioning and ensure these always meet and exceed Health & Safety standards and legislation

Provide a proactive and trusted resource to the Project Delivery Manager to support effective and efficient close out of all projects to meet the clients’ requirements and enable final accounts completion

Strive to continuously improve project delivery by closely collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to understand challenges and implement solutions

Experience: Qualified in an engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, process or civil

Experience of delivering projects or coordinating complex tasks and activities to support planned outcomes.

A background in construction or process industries would be advantageous together with the ambition to develop a career in this sector.

Able to travel across the Anglian Water region as required to support projects.

Able to establish and sustain strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and work in a collaborative fashion.

Confident, proactive and willing to take accountability to drive performance.

IT literate and open to new technology, you’ll demonstrate resilience and maintain energy and focus when under pressure.

Our Client: Is an integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across eight regional centres, primarily supporting six long term water sector frameworks operating both on their own and increasingly in JV’s and alliances.

The Role: Working in a JV which is delivering a range of schemes to maintain and improve Southern Water’s water supply and wastewater treatment works in the eastern half of its region (Kent & East Sussex).

Our Client is looking to strengthen their Delivery team with an Assistant Project Manager for the joint venture framework. Based throughout the region, you will provide support to the teams on site and will gain experience and training in the management and construction of their projects.

Duties: You will support the project delivery teams by providing assistance in the following;

Assisting the project team to help drive projects forward

Writing method statements and risk assessments, and procuring sub-contractor, labour, plant and material resources.

Ensuring actions are carried out at the right time, by the right people and to a controlled budget

Develop key relationships with clients, design teams, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders

Skills/Experience: Professional/management qualifications or transferable role specific experience.

Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background

Good working knowledge of all relevant H&S legislation.

H&S qualification SMSTS/IOSH/NEBOSH (preferred)

Working towards professional recognition with a chartered body.

Experience of the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.

The Role: Reporting to the Project Manager supporting the Project Delivery Team, you will be involved in the site management of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil installation The project is a new water treatment process (1st of its kind in the UK). It entails Civils works for below ground pipework and a new building to house the equipment, MEICA works for the plant and associated controls associated.

Responsibilities: Preparation of all relevant documentation prior to the commencement of the installation phase of the project, including but not limited to:

Site Management Plans

Risk Assessments and Method Statements for activities being undertaken by directly employed resources

Reviewing and approval of subcontractors site documentation including but not limited to:

Risk Assessments and Method Statements

Installation programmes

Test and Inspection documentation

Management and control of all site activities ensuring that all work is undertaken in a safe and timely manner in accordance with all Safety, Health and Environmental legislation, all relevant contractual timescales and all relevant contract specifications.

Liaison with the client’s engineering and operational staff to ensure all KPI’s are met or exceeded.

Work alongside the Contract Engineer and Planner to regularly review the progress of the works ensuring that adherence to the contract programme dates is maintained. This will include the preparation and maintenance of fortnightly look ahead programmes.

Ensure all required site documentation is completed, including but not limited to:

Daily diary sheets

Daily allocation sheets

Records of delays and changes, including the financial implications

All relevant Safety, Health and Environmental documentation

Records in respect of Subcontractor progress and performance

Undertake Site Inductions and regular Tool Box Talks for all resources visiting and working on the site.

Ensure that site costs are monitored and controlled.

Preparation of progress reports as required.

Attendance at site visits / meetings.

Coordination and liaison with suppliers, specialist sub-contractors, in-house functions, site installation and construction teams.

Preparation of material & plant requisitions

Experience: An industry applicable qualification

Demonstrable experience of working within the water and/or sewage industries

Relevant H&S qualifications (IOSH or CITB 5 Day Site Safety Management, A relevant CSCS card and First Aid training)

Working knowledge of Microsoft packages

Self-motivation

A high level of diplomacy and customer focused

Strong team player but also able to work as an individual

Ability to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines

Able to work in a busy environment under pressure

The framework is heading into its latest Asset Management Period, known as AMP 7 which will the delivery of a £1.4bn programme of work over the next five years.

Manage a team and oversee the development of solutions to ensure multiple projects are completed on time, to quality standards and safely whilst in line with legislation, Alliance governance and processes. You will be responsible for projects throughout their lifecycles ensuring the team handles operational needs and conflicts appropriately to arrive at win-win situations for all concerned.

Responsibilities: Assure CDM compliance of each scheme through the TOTEX Delivery Process and through a series of audits, checks and peer reviews to champion a ‘Zero- Harm’ culture

Create and maintain a high performing team culture with a range of reports from Engineers to Commercial staff

Translating Programme level strategy into actual outcomes so team members are utilised correctly and fully understand the role they play in achieving success

Accountable for full project lifecycle from receipt of need through scoping, construction, project handover, formal sign off and managing any warranty issue that arise post-handover

Work closely with Commercial and Planning teams to ensure cost and resource forecasts are maintained to required levels of accuracy whilst issues are mitigated and/ or escalated to the Integrated Projects Leader for successful resolution

Oversee the teams’ promoted solutions ensuring they are safe, commercially viable and resolve the project requirements whilst being fit for purpose

Responsible for ensuring each project meets the required deliverables, and key project milestones such as Project Rehearsal and Fit for Assembly

Create an open, approachable and visible team environment

Experience: Engineering qualification

Experience in Water along with excellent knowledge of Health & Safety Accustomed to dealing with multiple projects and holding, ideally with an APMP qualification, you’ll be comfortable professionally challenging a host of stakeholders by using your strong communication and relationship building skills.

Experience of working within a commercial framework and with knowledge of NEC Option C contracts

Able to make decisions quickly for the best of the business.
