The Role: They are looking to recruit a MQS/Commercial Manager to assist in the successful delivery of a new £120m water treatment project close to Derby and Nottingham. This is a key project, utilising the latest technology and is only the 2nd plant in the UK to use this treatment method.

Responsibilities: Report directly to the Senior Commercial Manager and Project Director.

Commercial Management of the out performance of the project.

Commercial & contractual support to the procurement team.

Provide input to continuous development of the Commercial Strategy for pre works orders & construction phase.

Leading the commercial team on the project.

Continuous review of commercial resource levels within the project to ensure effective and efficient delivery.

Advise Senior Commercial Manager of commercial resourcing requirements.

Support the Senior Commercial Manager in recruiting of commercial resources.

Support the Senior Commercial Manager in providing contractual and commercial training to all staff.

Support the Senior Commercial Manager in review and continuous development of commercial processes and procedures

Experience: A comprehensive level of commercial experience preferably with a contracting organisation.

BSc or HND in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent construction related subject

Professionally qualified to RICS, CMinstCES or several years’ experience in a management & leadership role.

NEC3 contract experience

Preferably previous water/construction experience within a joint venture environment but this is not essential

Experienced user of Microsoft products, Excel in particular.

Position: Regional Commercial Manager

Introduction: Our Client is developing and building multiple multi-year Contracts and Projects in the UK. The Commercial Manager is a key role who will be the commercial lead and ensure the successful completion of multiple challenging anaerobic digestor construction projects and injection hubs each valued at £25m with a total spend of £400m. Once delivered this role will continue as a commercial lead for the operational business.

Key responsibilities will include:

Work closely and collaboratively with the Senior Management Team

Conduct contract negotiations with principal contractors and subcontractors and manage all subsequent contract administration post award.

Review Invitations to Tender and ensure commercial aspects of the contracts are managed effectively.

Build strong relationships with all principal and subcontractors to ensure successful delivery of all projects.

Design and produce high level commercial reports with emphasis on project specific reports, including Profit & Loss reporting, protecting the business from commercial risk and ensuring adherence to governance is met from tender enquiries through to final account.

Review and timely negotiation of final accounts.

Ensure the profitability, cash and risk management, cost control and accurate reporting of engineering and construction activities on each project

Undertake cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams.

Ensure commercial challenge at all times to engineering and site teams.

Resolving contractual and commercial problems.

Review all contract orders and advise accordingly within the business.

Chair and attend internal and external commercial review meetings.

Oversee the management information required and take responsibility for the accuracy of said information (WIP/Provisions, CVR’s, Cash Management, Cashflow forecasts and Business Performance Reports).

Design KPI report and ensure all relevant KPI data is produced and the accuracy of the information.

Development of supply chain relationships with main contractor, suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of projects.

Challenge supply chain procurement while utilising extensive knowledge of NEC and business law to verify, oversee or approve commercial agreements and documentation.

Ensure that the financial aspects and commercial risks of a contract are clear to all parties.

Lead final account negotiation achieving the best possible outcome

Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base.

Work with the operational teams to deliver and manage performance against the Profit Improvement Plan.

Manage commercial performance against business targets and KPI’s.

Ensure that the delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances.

Manage commercial reporting process internally and externally.

Management of subcontract procurement.

Commercial management of main contractor and subcontractor accounts from initial engagement to negotiation and agreement of final accounts.

Ensuring timely certification and payment of subcontractors.

Review of monthly cost and value to complete forecasts for projects.

Active involvement in Risk Management.

Provision of commercial and contractual support and advice to management and operational teams.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Comprehensive commercial management experience in a similar position ideally with a Civil Engineering or Process Contractor or a similar role in a client organisation

Relevant experience on challenging, multi-million-pound projects within a process industry such as water/wastewater, energy from waste, anaerobic digestion

Qualification at HND level (or higher) in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management

Experience in dispute resolution processes – negotiation, mediation, adjudication, litigation

Solid and varied commercial/contractual knowledge

Experience using NEC and IChemE conditions of contract

Experience working in a collaborative environment

CSCS registered

Experience using Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, A Site, document sharing platforms

The Role: A Strategic Working Alliance (SWA) has been created to deliver works in AMP 7 for United Utilities as Advance Plus.

Advance Plus has been awarded two geographical batches of work within the United Utilities Area (North and Southwest) with an anticipated combined value in excess of £400m over a five-year period.

Our Client is looking to strengthen their Commercial team with a Senior Quantity Surveyor for the Advance Plus Framework. You will work closely with project operational teams providing commercial support throughout the project lifecycle for individual projects or batches.

Responsibilities: You will report directly to the Commercial Manager and the responsibilities will include:

Preparation of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required.

Preparation of Valuations/Application for payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract.

Our client is a Tier 1 D&B Contractor operating predominately in the water industry, who are delivering a number of water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects for Thames Water and they are recruiting for Managing Quantity Surveyor for these exciting projects throughout Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

The key purpose of this role is to ensure the successful financial delivery of multiple challenging civil engineering projects on a 5-year water focused Framework, from pre. contract award through to post completion, as a key member of a successful management team, protecting the exposure of the Company to financial risks.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Management of commercial project delivery by a team comprising varying levels of Quantity Surveyors ensuring adherence to the commercial procedures and governance of the Business
  • Management and collation of data for input into various internal and external framework level reporting requirements
  • Ensure projects deliver to minimum margin expectations through cost control and value management
  • Review and management of monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports
