Engineering/Technical Director – Fabrication or Manufacturing
Position: Engineering/Technical Director
Location: Reading
Salary: up to £65k (DOE), car/allowance, bonus and excellent benefits package
Our Client: Is an independently owned SME who specialize in the manufacture of perforated materials.
Products: Technically superior cost-effective perforated metals and plastics; flat sheet products: coil-coil, coil-sheet and sheet-sheet products; interrupted perforated patterns; and fully formed components finished to a client’s specifications.
Manufacture of all kinds of perforated coil or sheet materials on modern electronically controlled presses. All manner of widths and patterns are available to the highest degrees of accuracy.
Markets served include:
Architectural, Audio, Automotive, Baking Trays, Ceilings, Enclosures, Filtration, Lighting, Microwaves, Oil and Gas, Profilers, Stock Sheets.
The Role: Add impetus and drive to the business.
Inject both technical and commercial acumen to the senior management team allowing new business opportunities to be embraced.
Direct leadership of the manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, estimating and supply chain teams.
Establish strong working relationships with all customers and suppliers.
Management of all site facilities
Manage & foster a strong working relationship with all on-site personnel and functions.
Reports to Managing Directors.
Direct reports are Maintenance Manager and Toolroom Manager
Responsibilities: As a part of the senior management team, you will be expected to be involved in all areas of the business.
Manage the maintenance activities within the organisation. Identify enhancements to plant and specify new equipment to enhance the company’s technical and commercial capabilities.
Contribute to and drive engineering projects including tooling, machinery, materials and processes to ensure product is made on time, profitability is maximised, and wastage minimised.
Develop, initiate and manage equipment (tooling, jigs, and machinery) improvement projects to achieve productivity and profitability goals. Technical ownership for trials of new products and tooling
Drive R&D and continually seek to enhance and develop internal systems and processes.
Identify ways to optimise engineering and manufacturing effectiveness
Provide direction & leadership for the Maintenance and Toolroom teams.
Review and develop current technical specifications including statistical analysis, inspection and validation activities as appropriate.
Contribute to the organisation process improvement activities (scrap reduction)
Ensuring a risk- free Health and Safety environment
Share and promote core values, actively promoting a team culture across the business.
Promote the company both within the local community and the industry.
Experience: A strong engineering background including knowledge of tooling, machinery, materials and processes
Commercially astute and constantly looking for opportunities to reduce cost and increase profit.
Able to assess technical challenging issues and develop solutions.
Proven track record of having successfully managed in a progressive manufacturing environment with knowledge of modern manufacturing tools and evidence of having improved key indicators of a similar manufacturing plant.
Proven expertise in managing, influencing & facilitating positive relationships across a business
Experience in the perforation, fabrication or metal processing industries would be highly advantageous.
Aspiration to join the Board of Directors
Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline is desirable
Leadership/management qualification such as MBA/DMS would be advantageous.
